What is Extraction?

Extraction is required when the tooth decay or trauma has gone beyond such a level that it cannot be restored back to its functional state any more.
If not done, the tooth condition can worsen and can lead to the spread of the infection to the surrounding bone which can affect the adjacent teeth.

Types of Extraction Treatment

  • Wisdom tooth extraction
  • Normal tooth extraction

What is the Procedure of Extractions?

With the recent advances in anesthesia techniques, the procedure is completely safe and Painless. First, the anesthesia is given near the respective nerve. After the tooth becomes numb, it is located and taken out with the help of forceps.
Sometimes, when the tooth is badly decayed or has limited access, a small surgery is required to gain access to the tooth. The Wisdom tooth, (also called Third Molar) usually does not push through the gums until the late teens or twenties.
Wisdom teeth removal surgery or impacted tooth extraction may need to be considered before construction of dentures. Sometimes the wisdom teeth erupt beneath the denture and that can cause severe irritation and infection

Wisdom Teeth Removal Surgery is Best When Done Early

Toothache prompts patients to come to the dentist. However, wisdom teeth do not usually cause pain until damage has already been done! Wisdom teeth removal surgery is best performed sooner rather than later.
X-rays taken earlier can indicate whether or not wisdom teeth will cause problems. The dental surgeon or oral surgeon will tell you when is the best time for the wisdom teeth removal.

Orthodontics And Wisdom Teeth

Many orthodontists believe that developing wisdom teeth can cause the front teeth to become over crowded, and often recommend wisdom teeth removal before or immediately after orthodontic treatment.
