What are Veneers?

A veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics (looks) of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface.

Veneers are an excellent way to correct discoloration, slight rotation, poor tooth shape and chipping of the teeth.

Veneers help in enhancing your smile and getting rid of those dirty, uneven and even gap in your teeth!

How Are They Made?

Veneers have about 1mm of thickness.

Steps Of Preparation

  • Tooth enamel is prepared

  • Impressions (molds) are taken and the desired tooth color is determined with the patient.

  • A temporary veneer is placed on your tooth while the impression is send to the lab for the preparation of permanent veener.

  • The veneers are fitted and cemented into the place on the second procedure.

Steps Of Preparation

Very strong, in the same way as ceramic floor tiles.

How long do they last?

Many years, but not forever. A typical lifetime for veneers is about 8-12 years.

How do I maintain them?

Essentially the same way you should treat your other teeth by brushing daily and flossing regularly. Eat anything normally you would, but dont use your front teeth as a tool- no opening of packages or bottles.

Please keep them clean to avoid decay and gum problems around them.

A temporary is an acrylic or composite veneer that is placed on the prepared teeth for protection during the time the permanent porcelain veneers are constructed in the lab.

Sensitivity, especially to cold, is common for a time following treatment. For the first few days avoid extremely hot or cold foods and beverages.

Your bite and the way your teeth come together may feel different. If your bite feels uneven, please be sure to call our us.

Home Care

To maintain the veneers and your new smile, it is important to remember that the underlying teeth are still vulnerable to decay, especially at the gumline where the tooth and veneer meet.

It is important to resume regular brushing and flossing.

Decrease your intake of sugar-containing foods, which will increase the longevity of your new restorations.

What is a porcelain laminate Veneer?

Porcelain Laminate Veneers are coatings crafted out of porcelain that are bonded to the front surface of a tooth.

These veneers greatly enhance the look of your smile with as little discomfort as possible. These veneers are made to suit the patient's individual needs and are indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Indications for Veneers

Veneers can be used to provide an aesthetic solution in many situations:

  • Spaces between teeth.

  • Discolored teeth.

  • Mispositioned or slightly crooked teeth.

  • Odd shaped, cracked or chipped teeth.

  • Fractured teeth with a fair amount or tooth structure left.

  • Teeth with multiple fillings which have compromised the aesthetics of the smile.

  • Unsatisfactory shape, size and form of teeth.

  • To provide a "White Smile" in persons with naturally dark teeth.

Advantages of Veneers

Veneers can be placed on teeth with minimal tooth preparation. They look and feel completely natural. A beautiful result is achieved in just a few days time, and can last for many years.

The texture and finish of porcelain veneers make them highly resistant to external staining. Due to their durability, looks and comfort, veneers have become one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments available today.

Veneers today are widely used by people in the entertainment field and show business to obtain a beautiful smile.

What is involved in getting a Veneer?

The Process of having a veneer made for your tooth involves a few short visits to your Dentist.

The procedure is simple and relatively painless.

  • Your Dentist will first analyze your smile to determine which teeth require veneers.

  • Depending on how much tooth shaping is required, you may or may not require anesthesia.

  • Minimal shaping of your teeth is then done and an impression is taken.

Ceramic veneers take between 1-2 weeks to be made. During that period, your teeth may be fitted with temporary veneers to prevent sensitivity.

Ceramic veneers are bonded to the teeth using special adhesives. Once fixed, these veneers are exceptionally strong. It takes only a day or two to get used to them.

Post treatment care

Look after your veneers well. Brush and floss as you regularly do. Use a non abrasive toothpaste to help maintain the shine and gloss of your veneers. Normal diet will not harm your veneers. Avoid any shearing force on these teeth (like biting a sugarcane).

Regular check ups will ensure your veneers are in excellent shape. Well maintained veneers should last you for many years and give you a long lasting and beautiful smile.
